WASHINGTON, June 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of SoundStation2W wireless conference phone batteries due to a fire hazard.
The wireless conference phones with lithium ion battery packs can overheat, causing burns or creating fires, CPSC said in a statement.
About 5,800 of the phones were distributed by Polycom Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif. The battery packs were distributed by Gold Peak Industries of Hong Kong.
The phones with batteries and separate battery packs were sold between December 2007 and May 2008 through various outlets.
The battery packs have black or white plastic coating and a while label that says "RECHARGEABLE Li-ion BATTERY" CPSC said.
Consumers should remove the battery packs from the phones immediately, CPSC said.
Consumers were advised to contact Polycom for a free replacement. Consumers can call the company at 800-963-7627 for more information, CPSC said.
