Expanded Polaris ATV recall announced

WASHINGTON, June 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced an expanded recall of Polaris Industry ATVs due to a fire hazard.

About 95,000 of the Polaris All-Terrain Vehicles were previously recalled. The latest announcement, issued Thursday, adds 700 more to the recall list.

The recalled ATVs are all from model year 2004 and include 16 Scrambler and Sportsman models with defective Electronic Control Modules installed during service work.

The defective modules could overheat, posing a fire hazard, CPSC said in a statement.

Consumers are advised to disconnect the negative (black) cable from the ATV's battery when not in use and contact a Polaris dealer for a free repair.

Consumers can also call Polaris at 888-704-5290 for more information.
