Rawlings junior batting helmets recalled

WASHINGTON, May 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Rawlings junior batting helmets due to excessive lead paint.

The surface paint on the yellow and orange helmets -- highlighted with black accents -- is in violation of federal standards, CPSC said in a statement.

The helmets were made in China and imported by Rawlings Sporting Goods Co. Inc. of St. Louis, Mo.

No injuries have been reported, but 2,300 of the helmets were sold between July 2007 and November 2007 for about $40.

Consumers were advised to stop using the helmets immediately and contact a retailer for a free replacement.

Consumers can also call Rawlings at 800-729-5464 for more information.
