United Scientific magnets recalled

WASHINGTON, May 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of United Scientific magnets due to excessive lead paint.

Eleven models of the magnets, made in India, were imported by United Scientific of Waukegan, Ill., and sold October 1996 through September 2007 for between 50 cents and $15, the CPSC said in a statement.

About 2.35 million magnets were sold, mostly to school science classes, CPSC said.

No injuries have been reported.

Consumers were advised to stop using the magnets immediately and contact United Scientific to receive a free replacement.
