Shaker Guiro instruments recalled

WASHINGTON, May 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of West Music Shaker Guiro instruments, due to a excessive lead paint.

The shakers are a bead-filled percussion instrument with ridges, producing sound as the user rubs a wooden stick across its corrugated surface.

They are cylinder-shaped, 5 inches long and 2 inches wide.

About 6,500 shakers were sold at West Music retail stores in Iowa and Illinois, between November 2001 and March 2008, retailing for about $10.

They were made in Taiwan and imported by Antigua Winds Inc. of San Antonio, Texas.

Consumers were advised to take the shakers away from children and contact West Music to receive a replacement.

Consumers can also call West Music at 800-397-9378 for more information.
