PORT CANAVERAL , Fla., March 24 (UPI) -- Disney Cruise Line said Monday in Florida it would not add fuel surcharges to ticket prices for anyone who has already booked a reservation.
Fuel surcharges became controversial when Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Carnival Corp. said in November they would add as much as $140 in fees for passengers who had already booked staterooms and $70 for other passengers.
The move provoked lawsuits, prompting Royal Caribbean to rescind the charges and offer to refund surcharges to anyone who had booked a cruise before the surcharges were added to the price.
Carnival has kept the surcharges in place.
Disney is looking into the addition of a surcharge for the future, but announced it would not adopt one until at least April. But, Disney spokesman Tom McAlpin said it will not impose surcharges on anyone who has already paid for a ticket.
