WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of "Fun2Fly"-brand remote controlled helicopter toys due to a safety hazard.
About 30,000 of the Chinese-manufactured helicopter toys -- imported by Soft Air USA Inc. of Grapevine, Texas -- were sold nationwide last May through December for about $30.
The CPSC said the rechargeable battery contained inside the helicopter can catch fire during charging, igniting the helicopter and nearby combustible materials.
Soft Air USA said it has received six reports of helicopters igniting, including one minor injury.
The recall involves the remote-controlled helicopter toy "Fun2Fly Microcopter" with item No. 91001. The helicopter comes with a transmitter that controls and recharges the helicopter.
The recalled toy is made of foam and plastic and measures about 6 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The transmitter measures about 4 1/2 inches by 5 inches. "Fun2Fly" and "Microcopter" are printed on the packaging. The item number is printed above the UPC label.
The toys can be returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company by calling collect to 817-717-4300.
