CHICAGO, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The boxy Scion xB compact utility vehicle was named the "Best of the Year" by MotorWeek Wednesday at the 100th Chicago Auto Show.
Toyota's youth brand aimed the xB squarely at Gen Y but the roomy, car-like vehicle became a favorite of their Baby Boomer parents attracted by its versatility, affordability and fuel-efficiency.
MotorWeek, television's first auto magazine, also choose the Scion xB as "Best Small Car" in its annual Drivers' Choice Awards.
"Our Scion owners asked for a bigger and better box and we responded with the 2008 xB," said Scion Vice President Jack Hollis.
The Honda Accord was "Best Family Sedan," the Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country "Best Minivan," Chrysler Sebring "Best Convertible," Mercedes-Benz C-Class "Best Luxury Sedan," Cadillac CTS "Best Sport Sedan" and Volkswagen R32 "Best Performance Car."
"The Nissan Rogue was "Best Small Utility," Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon "Best Large Utility," Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia/Saturn Outlook "Best Crossover Utility, Ford F-150 "Best Pickup," and the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid/GMC Yukon Hybrid "Best Eco-Friendly."
The Audi R8, Bentley Continental GT Speed and Lexus LS 600h L were MotorWeek's "Best Dream Machine."
