Groupon starts refund program
DES MOINES, Iowa, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Midway through 2007, the number of cell phone connections in Iowa far exceeded the number of land lines, an Iowa Utilities Board study has found.
The Iowa Utilities Board study found that the state had 1,943,334 wireless phone connections as of June 30, 2007, in comparison to the 1,483,814 wired connections in service at the time, The Des Moines Register said Saturday.
One of the growing number of Iowans who has removed their land lines in favor of a wireless connection is Emmet Davis.
He said the increasing amount of taxes applied to the bill for his basic land line prompted him to go wireless. Davis told the Register his only regret regarding his telecommunications move has been the rare occasion when he loses his more compact cell phone.
"I used to be able to use my land line at the house to call my cell phone and make it ring, so I could figure out which pocket it's in," he said. "Now, if my wife isn't home, I can't do that."
