BROOMFIELD, Colo., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A new DVD club in the United States hopes to prove that love for the environment and love for films aren't mutually exclusive.
Earth Cinema Circle was created by the Spiritual Cinema Circle, a unit of Gaiam, an environmentally conscious company based in Broomfield, Colo. The films offered through ECC provide educational, family "eco-tainment," the company said in a news release.
Hosted by actor and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr., Earth Cinema Circle offers a bi-monthly selection of three to six eco-friendly films, shorts and documentaries. A portion of the DVD club subscription supports up-and-coming filmmakers.
Among the movies offered are "Garbage Warrior," a documentary about architect Mike Reynolds who incorporates tires, cans and plastic bottles into energy-independent homes; "The Queen of Trees," which shows how the fig tree in Africa sustains life for range of species; and "Flip-Flopstam," a film that follows the life cycle of flip-flops.
