WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of Chinese manufactured "Tinker Bell Lamps" because of lead contamination.
The CPSC said the surface paint on about 60,000 lamps -- distributed by Kash N' Gold Ltd. of Deer Park, N.Y. -- contains excessive levels of lead, violating the U.S. lead paint standard.
The recalled lamps, made in Hong Kong, have "Tinker Bell Lamp" printed on the bottom of each unit. The lamp has a sculpted Tinker Bell in a flower garden with an animation of Tinker Bell swaying back and forth while music plays when the light switch or demo button is depressed.
The lamps were sold nationwide from January 2007 through October 2007 for about $40.
The CPSC said consumers should stop using the recalled lamps and return them for a refund or contact the firm at 800-354-8785 to receive a merchandise credit.
