Oil down in early trading

NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Crude oil futures had their first losing day of the week with a late session drop Friday that left prices down 62 cents to $96 a barrel.

Crude for February delivery was in positive territory most of the day and rose as high as $97.92. For the week, prices gained $2.69, or 2.9 percent.

Natural gas meanwhile rose 18.6 cents to $7.386 per million British thermal units.

Heating oil was down 3.65 cents at $2.4597 a gallon.

Reformulated gas was also down 4.33 cents at $2.637 a gallon.

The average U.S. price at the pump for regular unleaded gasoline hit $3 Friday, the AAA said, a fraction above Thursday's price.
