WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall Tuesday of Chinese-made bicycle helmets due to a safety hazard.
Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. of Morgan Hill, Calif., initiated the recall because the imported helmets failed testing required under the CPSC's safety standards, thereby posing a threat of head injury to riders in a fall.
The recall involves approximately 3,000 Specialized helmets, model 2D. The model number is printed on the rear sides of the helmets that were sold nationwide by retailers and online for men and women in matte black, white, silver, blue, pink, and team colors between July and October for about $200.
Consumers can obtain additional recall information from the company at 877-808-8154.
