Disney to build clinic for Florida workers

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday it will build a $6 million, 15,000-square-foot medical clinic for Florida's Walt Disney World employees and their dependents.

The health and wellness center, scheduled to open in 2009, will provide primary care medical services, as well pharmacy, lab and basic radiology, the world's second-largest media and entertainment corporation said.

The clinic will be located in a backstage area near Epcot, the second theme park built at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney said.

Company officials would not estimate the potential savings to the company or to employees.

Florida Health Care Coalition President Becky Cherney, representing 23 large Florida employers, said the clinic would set an example "of how employers can help address Florida's healthcare challenges," the Orlando Sentinel reported.

More than 40,000 of the resort's 60,000 employees and their dependents participate in Disney's health plan, Disney said.

The clinic will be operated by a health management company whose name Disney said it would announce soon.
