Miller, Anheuser-Busch renew ad gibes

MILWAUKEE, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- No. 2 U.S. beer maker Miller Brewing Co. attacked No. 1 Anheuser-Busch Cos. with a TV commercial spoofing A-B's Clydesdale horses and Dalmatian dog.

The commercial, which began running this week, shows a Dalmatian on a beer wagon pulled by Clydesdales. But the dog jumps into the open window of a Miller beer truck -- "presumably enticed by Miller Lite having more taste and fewer carbs than Bud Light," the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Anheuser-Busch, based in St. Louis, responded with full-page ads in the Journal Sentinel, USA Today and other newspapers Wednesday.

The newspaper ads characterized the TV spot as "negative" and said Anheuser-Busch was responding by donating money to animal rescue groups.

Miller, based in Milwaukee, had no immediate comment.
