Crude oil, other energy prices rally

NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rallied Wednesday after the U.S. Energy Department reported supplies dropped by a higher-than-expected 5.3 million barrels last week.

Crude oil rose $1.83 to finish the session at $87.10 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Other energy futures posted strong gains as well.

Gasoline rose 3.86 cents to close at $2.1475 a gallon. Heating oil gained 4.22 cents to finish at $2.3420 a gallon. Natural gas rallied 21.10 cents at $6.972 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report showed the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.822, up from $2.820 reported Tuesday.
