DEA chief to become Motorola lobbyist

CHICAGO, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- The lead drug enforcer in the United States will become Motorola's leading lobbyist, the Illinois-based company announced.

Karen P. Tandy, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s administrator since 2003, will become senior vice-president for government relations and public policy at Motorola, Crain's Chicago Business reported Tuesday. She will replace Michael Kennedy, who plans to retire at the end of 2007 after 22 years with Motorola.

Tandy will act as point in several areas such as telecommunications policy and relations with individual countries, and will oversee the lobbying effort for Motorola, the firm said.

Tandy was an associate attorney general for drug enforcement before joining the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2003. She was an assistant U.S. attorney in Virginia from 1979-90, before moving to the criminal division of the Justice Department, where she worked for nine years.
