Novartis charts reorganization, layoffs

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Novartis, long one of the drug industry's best performers, has revealed a management shakeup and U.S. job cuts as earnings slacken.

The Swiss drugmaker chose Joe Jimenez, head of Consumer Health Care, to take over the prescription-drug unit and carry out a reorganization aimed at simplifying decision making and pushing more medicines through to market, Novartis told The Wall Street Journal.
