GM, UAW in seventh day of deliberations

DETROIT, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Negotiations resumed for a seventh day Friday in Detroit in contract talks between General Motors and the United Auto Workers.

Retiree healthcare remained the main sticking point.

GM and the UAW have been in a standoff over GM's push to create a company-funded, union-run trust fund after UAW President Ron Gettelfinger rejected GM's latest proposal.

Meanwhile, local officials were told to “be prepared for something" if no progress was made at the bargaining table by midnight Friday.
