AOL launches ad network, moves HQ to N.Y.

DULLES, Va., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Time Warner Inc.'s AOL LLC unit said Monday it would launch a new ad network and move its headquarters to New York from suburban Washington.

The Platform A network will combine recent AOL acquisitions, including Web ad banner buyer Advertising.com, Web marketing firm Tacoda Inc., cell-phone advertising firm Third Screen Media, broadband video ad company Lightningcast Inc. and interactive-advertising firm Ad:Tech, the company formerly known as America Online Inc. said.

Former Tacoda Chief Executive Officer Curtis Viebranz was named Platform A's president.

AOL, which is shifting from a subscription model to one supported by advertising, plans to "continue to have significant operations" in Dulles, Va., as well as in its other locations, the company said.

"New York City is the center of advertising, so it makes perfect sense to locate our corporate headquarters here," AOL Chairman Randy Falco said in a statement.

Time Warner is also also based in New York.

The company said most of its 4,000 people in Dulles would remain there but senior executives would move to New York.

The company didn't say what the cost of the move would be.
