SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. consumer-electronics giant Apple Inc. Wednesday introduced a new iPod with a touchscreen and wireless Internet similar to the company's multimedia iPhone.
The Cupertino, Calif., company also said it would cut the price of its most expensive iPhone model, with 8 gigabytes of storage, to $399 from $599.
"We want to make the iPhone even more affordable," Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said at a San Francisco product event.
Apple also unveiled an iTunes WiFi music store, where customers can preview and purchase songs over the Internet using a WiFi connection to their iPod Touch portable media player.
Apple also said it was teaming with Starbucks Corp. to let customers browse the iTunes digital music store for free while in a participating Starbucks. While there, they also will be able to download the song playing in the coffee shop at that moment onto their iPod Touch, iPhone, personal computer or Mac, with prices the same as with regular iTunes songs.
Apple also introduced a new iPod Nano, with a two-inch video screen and metal design, and renamed the video iPod the iPod Classic, while doubling its storage space.
