Motorola 'worried' over Apple's i-Phone

NEW YORK, June 28 (UPI) -- Motorola, the world's second largest mobile phone maker, admits it is worried about the effect of Apple's iPhone, due out in the United States Friday.

But, Padmasree Warrior, Motorola's chief technology officer, told the Financial Times that the iPhone had weaknesses and predicted it would appeal only to a "small part of the market."

Nonetheless, she said, Apple is "a great competitor."

Motorola, basing a turnaround on new phones, was plunged into a crisis early this year when an attempt to increase its market share resulted in a loss of $181 million for the first three months of 2007.
