CHICAGO, June 22 (UPI) -- Starbucks coffeehouses are doing lunch starting next Tuesday, introducing a salad menu to go with the java.
Starbucks said it will offer two lunch dishes -- one of mozzarella and grape tomatoes and another with grilled chicken topping a roasted corn and black bean salad -- nationally, the Chicago Sun-Times said. Prices are in the $5.25-$5.50 range.
There also will be six regional options in 22 markets. The move is being made in about 70 percent of the company-owned U.S. stores -- around 4,400 spots, the Sun-Times said.
It's seen as an effort to better compete with McDonald's and Burger King. Starbucks introduced breakfast sandwiches a year ago.
Shares fell nearly 4 percent to $26.26 after Starbucks warned Thursday that high dairy prices could hamper efforts to meet its earnings forecast.
