BEIJING, June 20 (UPI) -- China's state wire service, Xinhua News Agency, launched a self-developed financial information service system Wednesday.

The system, "Xinhua 08," went into trial operation for more than 190 major financial institutions and companies in the country, Xinhua reported.

The system provides news and information on domestic and overseas currency, capital, foreign exchange, gold and futures markets, Xinhua said, as well as reports on 55 industries including metals, energy and real estate.

It also offers real-time data on more than 20 major domestic and overseas exchanges, prices of the products at major financial institutions, and domestic and overseas economic and customs data.

The news agency said Xinhua 08's launch will help it expand to better match China's economic growth.
