NEW YORK, May 15 (UPI) -- U.S. cell phone maker Motorola Inc. Tuesday announced its next-generation Razr phone and an update to its wireless handheld Motorola Q BlackBerry rival.
The Razr2 is 2 millimeters thinner than the original Razr, introduced in 2004. It has a 2-inch external screen for improved caller-ID viewing. Its 2.2-inch internal screen has twice the original resolution of the original Razr.
Made of stainless steel and chemically hardened glass, the phone also has more memory than the Razr and an improved user interface.
The phone will be available this summer.
Motorola did not discuss prices or wireless-carrier agreements, but said the phones are aimed at the more expensive end of the market.
The Schaumburg, Ill., company also introduced the Q8 and Q9 -- updates to last year's keyboard-equipped Q messaging phone.
The new Qs are thinner and have more memory and better cameras than the original model. The Q9 runs on High-Speed Downlink Packet Access networks used in Asia and Europe and gaining popularity in the United States.
