Nokia-Siemens plan job cutbacks

HELSNKI, Finland, May 3 (UPI) -- Nokia-Siemens Networks plans to cut 1,500 jobs in Finland over the next three years, it was announced Thursday.

Similar cuts were indicated for Germany, where there is a work force of more than 12,000, Helsingin Sanomat reported, but no figure was given.

Nokia-Siemens, set up in April, plans to trim as many as 9,000 workers worldwide as a part of a plan to reach annual savings of $1.1 billion by 2010. The company was formed by the merger of the telephone and data networks manufacturing units of Nokia and Siemens.
