Delta Air Lines cuts first quarter loss

ATLANTA, April 23 (UPI) -- As it prepares to emerge from bankruptcy by the end of the month, Delta Air Lines Monday reported it had sharply cut its first quarter net loss.

The Atlanta-based air carrier reported a net loss of $130 million, compared with $2.07 billion a year ago, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Delta has been operating under federal Chapter 11 protection from creditors since September, 2005. A hearing to consider approving the airline's reorganization plan is due on Wednesday.
