XM, Rogers Communications ink content deal

TORONTO, April 3 (UPI) -- XM satellite radio and Canada's Rogers Communications Inc. said Tuesday they are providing content through Rogers' wireless, cable and Internet products.

The new Rogers-XM Canada service, launched this week, provides wireless customers with up to 25 channels of XM commercial-free music programming, as well as comedy, sports, entertainment and talk, the companies said.

"This is an incredible opportunity to expand the reach of satellite radio," XM Canada Chief Executive Officer John Bitove said. "With Rogers products available throughout Canada, we will now reach more Canadians than ever before and this agreement provides us new avenues for awareness and revenue growth."

XM is one of two satellite radio services in the United States and Canada. The service and rival Sirius Satellite Radio proposed an $11.4 billion merger in February. The merger needs U.S. Justice Department and Federal Communications Commission approval.

Rogers is one of Canada's largest communications companies, particularly in the field of wireless communications and cable television.
