U.S. markets recover from steep losses

MCLEAN, Va., March 15 (UPI) -- The benchmark 30-year fixed-rate U.S. mortgage average was unchanged at 6.14 percent, U.S. mortgage finance company Freddie Mac said Thursday.
The same mortgage averaged 6.34 percent a year ago, the company officially known as the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said.
The clearinghouse's weekly survey also showed 15-year mortgages rose to 5.88 percent this week from 5.86 percent.
One-year Treasury-indexed, adjustable-rate mortgages dropped to 5.42 percent from 5.47 percent.
Five-year hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages -- mortgages with a five-year fixed interest rate followed by an interest rate adjusted annually -- were unchanged at 5.9 percent, Freddie Mac said.
