Ford of Dearborn, Mich., said details of the high-performance power trains would be announced later.

The power train is the portion of a vehicle's drive mechanism that transmits power from the engine to the wheels. An automobile's power train includes the clutch, transmission, drive shaft and differential. The differential is used on cars' rear axle let wheels rotate at different speeds on curves.

UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said the investment agreement showed "what we can accomplish when we work together to preserve good-paying manufacturing jobs in the United States."

Regional UAW director Lloyd Mahaffey said the investment would give workers a great opportunity to "power the Ford vehicles of the future," The Detroit Free Press reported.
