SAN DIEGO, March 6 (UPI) -- A San Diego technology company has come out with a cell phone for baby boomers and their parents who have rejected trendy smart cell phones as too complicated.
GreatCall Inc.'s Jitterbug Dial phone includes a traditional dial tone to show the phone is ready to work, a padded ear cushion to improve callers' ability to hear, large fonts on an oversized keypad and a "phone concierge" to enter and delete numbers in the phone's directory, the company says.
The flip phone, which has the appearance and size of a typical flip phone, was developed by GreatCall President Arlene Harris, 58, and her husband, Chairman Marty Cooper, 78. Cooper invented Motorola's first cell phone in the 1970s, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Jitterbug Dial sells for $147. GreatCall plans start at $10 a month for Simple SOS service.
The company also sells a simple three-button phone for emergencies.
