OAK BROOK, Ill., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- McDonald's Corp. Tuesday took the wraps off new additions to its chicken snack wrap, one of the most successful U.S. product launches in its history.
The fast-food giant added a version with honey-mustard sauce and began offering all chicken snack wraps with grilled chicken instead of breaded and fried.
The snack wrap, priced around $1.29, makes use of items the company already used in other menu items: chicken strips, soft flour tortillas, shredded cheese and shredded lettuce, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Designed by Director of Culinary Innovation Dan Coudreaut, snack-wrap sales exceeded company projections by 20 percent since they were introduced six months ago, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Customers requested the lower-fat grilled version, Senior Director of U.S. Menu Management Ubong Ituen says.
A spicy salsa-roja flavor is among the wraps the company is testing.
McDonald's says it will continue to look for new types of snacks. Last year, the company shrank the size of its fruit salad and cut its price to less than $2. It also now offers packaged peeled apple slices on its dollar menu.
