China, U.S. open economic talks

BEIJING, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- China and the United States opened their first strategic economic dialogue in Beijing Thursday in an effort to boost a long-term relationship.

Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson led the two-day session as special representatives of Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President George W. Bush.

Wu said the dialogue would focus on the discussion of "global, strategic and long-term" macro-economic issues of common concern, Xinhua reported.
