STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Volvo and Wrightbus of Northern Ireland are jointly making 110 school buses, the Swedish company said Tuesday.

Volvo will make the chassis at its Boras, Sweden, factory and Wrightbus will produce the vehicle's body and complete the assembly of each vehicle. Wrightbus has designed a new body that is based on a body that is used on Volvo's B7RLE low-entry chassis.

The buses are being built as "high floor buses. This provides the advantage of a flat floor without stairs inside the bus, which enhances safety for the children. The bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift to accommodate handicapped passengers," Volvo said.

The 110 school buses will feature three seats on one side and two on the other. This provides seats for 66 school children. All seats will have a safety belt.
