U.S. stocks post modest gains

NEW YORK, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. stocks posted modest gains as Nasdaq-traded Google topped $500 per share and Dow component Boeing announced a $5.5 billion deal with Korea Air.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 2.48, or 0.02 percen,t to 12,319.02. The Nasdaq composite gained 2.12, or 0.09 percent, to 2,454.84 and the Standard & Poor's 500 edged slightly up 2.24, or 0.16 percent, to 1,402.74.

Google rose 3 percent to its latest record and Boeing jumped 2.6 percent. On the minus side, General Motors was off 3.7 percent and Intel fell 2.9 percent. Higher oil prices, meanwhile, lifted shares in Big Oil.

The 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose 6/32, trimming its yield to 4.458 percent.

The dollar slipped to 117.81 yen from 118.04 and the euro rose to $1.2842 from $1.2814.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 closed up 8.20, or 0.05 percent, to 15.734.14, and London's FTSE 100 settled at 6,202.60 after losing 1.90, or 0.03 percent.
