Digital Music Group signs seven labels

SACRAMENTO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- California's Digital Music Group Inc., which buys rights to digital music and video content, cut seven deals to gain rights to more than 5,000 audio tracks.

DMG said in a news release Wednesday it would distribute these independent label music catalogs to online music stores worldwide.

The three new music catalogs under long-term distribution agreements are Music for Little People, which specializes in children's music; DM Records, which specializes in soul and blues; and Cryptic Corp., which specializes in avant-garde music.

Labels signed to new short-term distribution agreements are DRT Entertainment, ProgRock Records, Takeover Records and FILMguerrero.

Founded in 2005, DMG buys the digital rights to music and music video catalogs and digitally encodes these files into multiple formats for distribution to online music, mobile, and video stores. Its retailers include the iTunes Music Store, RealNetworks, Napster, Wal-Mart Music, Yahoo! Music, URGE, OD2, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile, InfoSpace and Google Video.
