Panavision Inc. buys digital rival

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Panavision Inc., which makes and rents movie cameras, is buying Plus 8 Digital, one of North America's largest digital camera rental companies.

Plus 8 Digital operates five digital camera rental facilities in Burbank, Calif., New York, Houston, Vancouver and Toronto.

The head of Panavision, Bob Beitcher, said the deal was part of the company's strategy to diversify "our camera product offerings generally and our digital offerings specifically and broaden our reach to cinematographers working in all segments of our business."

The value of the acquisition was not immediately disclosed.
