LONDON, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- News that British authorities had foiled an airline terror plot this week is not expected to wreak havoc on carriers' bottom line.
Ray Neidl, a Calyon Securities Inc. analyst, says he doesn't expect lots of traveler cancellations in the near term, but if passengers do cancel flights through the Labor Day weekend, the industry may be forced to offer fare sales to boost passenger levels, the Washington Post reported Friday.
"We're going to have to monitor the operations during the next few days, but it's unlikely there will be any long-term implications," Neidl says.
There might, however, be a decline of traffic on short flights as potential flyers opt to take a train or drive to avoid newly lengthened lines.
"If you have to spend two or three hours waiting for a flight, it might be quicker to drive," says analyst Helane Becker of Benchmark Co.
