ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 11 (UPI) -- Google will build a research and office facility in Ann Arbor, Mich., that will employ 1,000 people and create some 1,245 "spinoff" jobs.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm said Tuesday the California company's commitment to her state would accomplish the job creation in the first five years of the project.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. approved a tax credit valued at more than $38 million over 20 years to win the company's investment. The MEDC said Google's investment will generate more than $2 billion in personal income for

Michigan workers over the life of the tax credit.

Larry Page, one of Google's founders, earned his high school diploma in East Lansing, Mich., and his undergraduate degree in engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He has retained close ties with the university.

The new facility will be a sales and operations center for Google's AdWords online advertising program.
