More oil workers abducted in Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria, June 21 (UPI) -- Two Filipino workers, employed by Norwegian oil services company Petroleum Geo-Services, have been kidnapped in the Niger Delta.

Gunmen in six speed boats stormed a jetty at Aker Base, Rumuolumeni, in the Ikwerre area of Nigeria, and took the pair, presumably as hostages, Nigeria's Guardian newspaper reported Wednesday.

The kidnapped men are employed by is PGS contractor Beaufort International. The kidnappers reportedly haven't issued any demands nor have they identified themselves.

The Niger Delta is a 27,000-square-mile tract of swamps and mangroves that are home to the 14 million-strong Ijaw tribe. Several nationalistic militias operate in the region.
