U.S. markets recover from steep losses

WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- A U.S. consumer advocacy group condemned real estate trade groups for allegedly setting prices and blocking competition.
Stephen Brobeck, head of the Consumer Federation of America, says real estate groups act like a cartel in maintaining a "cockamamie" commission system to block discount firms from gaining market share, The Washington Post reported.
Brobeck said some inexperienced real estate agents charge 7 percent sales commission, enough to buy a new car.
He also praised Justice Department efforts to pressure state officials to open the business to new, more competitive, business models.
