LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) -- A group of U.S. investors aims to challenge Grupo Televisa's bid to buy Univision, the biggest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States.
Texas Pacific Group and Thomas H. Lee Partners, two private equity groups that had been considering a separate bid for Univision, have been joined by Madison Dearborn and Providence Equity Partners, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

That foursome is expected to mount a serious challenge to Grupo Televisa, a Mexican conglomerate, when initial bids are made early next month.
Univision, which is based in Los Angeles, could sell for as much as $12 billion when a deal is done, perhaps around the end of summer.
