Google concerned about new IE feature

LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- Google is going after Microsoft's new version of Internet Explorer, alleging that a new feature could stifle competition, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The newspaper said Google has been talking with U.S. and European antitrust officials about Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft's new version of its Web browser. The software contains a search box on the toolbar with a default setting that sends any queries entered to MSN, Microsoft's Internet search engine.

Google executives declined to comment on the talks.

Federal antitrust officials said they have also received a complaint about the ability of computer manufacturers to change the setup options and commercial offers that customers see on the screen the first time they start up Windows Vista, which is expected to debut in January.

A spokeswoman for the Justice Department would not say whether Google was among the companies raising concerns, the newspaper said.
