WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Census Bureau let a $600 million contract Thursday to the Harris Corp. of Melbourne, Fla.
The five-year contract calls for Harris to supply hand-held computers so field representatives will be able to collect data more efficiently during the 2010 census.

Harris will supply "infrastructure, support services, hardware and software" to support a network of nearly 500 local offices and about 500,000 hand-held electronic devices for use around the country.
