Alcatel, Lucent discussing merger

MURRAY HILL, N.J., March 24 (UPI) -- Lucent Technologies Inc. said Friday it is talking with France's Alcatel SA about a merger.

The New Jersey company described any potential deal as a "merger of equals that is intended to be priced at market."

If a combination is completed it will create an entity with about $33 billion in yearly revenues.
