BEIJING, March 23 (UPI) -- The Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang of Taiwan have agreed to a forum between the two nations on economic and trade affairs.
The decision was made Wednesday at talks between Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, and a delegation of the think tank of Kuomintang, Xinhua reported.
The forum is scheduled to be held April 14 to 15 in Beijing.
Chen said that the quick establishment of economic exchanges and direct links of mail, trade and transport will benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
China is Taiwan's No. 1 export market and largest trade surplus source. Indirect cross-Strait trade volume hit $495.81 billion by the end of 2005, including $414.08 billion of Taiwanese exports to China.
