Older Brits turn to plastic surgery

LONDON, March 19 (UPI) -- Plastic surgery is booming in Britain as the middle-aged turn to facelifts and eyelid surgery to avoid age discrimination.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports a 40 percent increase in operations to counteract the effects of age, The Independent said.

"Policewomen and teachers come to me," said Dr. Norman Waterhouse, a plastic surgeon with an office in the London medical center of Harley Street. "People who would not have come to me 15 or 20 years ago are now requesting treatments."

Both men and women are seeking facelifts, the Harley Medical Group told the newspaper.

Women go for breast lifts, eyebrow surgery and Botox treatment to remove wrinkles. Men tend to want to change single features -- often ones they have been unhappy with for years -- like their noses.
