Rowan lands two North Sea drilling jobs

HOUSTON, March 14 (UPI) -- U.S. offshore oil drilling company Rowan Companies Inc. landed two big contracts for North Sea work.

Two British oil companies, whose identities were not disclosed, hired Rowan for the use of its Super Gorilla class jack-up rig Gorilla VI starting next year, Rowan said Tuesday. The combined value of the two contracts ranges from $127 million to as much as $311 million.

Gorilla VI is scheduled to complete operations offshore eastern Canada during the fourth quarter of 2006, when it will be relocated to the North Sea.

Collectively, the contracts specify a minimum of 420 days of work and contain options for an additional 530 days.
