Seminole seeks another coal plant permit

TAMPA, Fla., March 10 (UPI) -- Florida-based Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. Friday filed an application to build a third coal plant at its Putnam County site.

Seminole, which also filed a site certification request Thursday with Florida's Department of Environmental Protection, filed its application with the Florida Public Service Commission.

The utility envisions a 750 megawatt unit that would go into service May 1, 2012.

Seminole is a wholesale energy supplier serving an estimated 1.6 million individuals and businesses in 46 of Florida's 67 counties, from the Georgia border to the Everglades.
