MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- New Year's resolutions for U.S. adults include promises to eat better, exercise more or spending time with family, but managers wish to learn a new skill.

A survey of the 1,000 largest U.S. companies, conducted by Accountemps, asked executives, "If you were to make a career-related New Year's resolution, what would it be?"

Thirty-one percent said they wanted to acquire a new skill; 19 percent wanted to spend less time at work; 13 percent said they wanted to improve relationships with boss/coworkers; 7 percent wanted to make a career change; 6 percent wanted to earn a promotion; and 3 percent wanted to earn a raise.

"The start of a new year provides an opportunity to take stock of one's career and outline steps for advancing to the next level," said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps.
